5 New Year’s resolutions everyone in a relationship should make

New Year ResolutionsUm, how is New Year’s Eve here already? I swear it was just a few weeks ago that I was rocking in 2015. Time just keeps moving more and more quickly! Anyway, I was thinking about what I wanted to say about New Year’s Eve and resolutions and I started thinking about how single people are always reading about what they should do to change their relationship status. But, people in relationships could use some advice, too. Not on changing their relationship status, but on improving their relationship. And a new year is always a great time to implement some changes. So, here are 5 resolutions every person in a relationship should make this New Year’s Eve.

Communicate more

I’m the world’s biggest proponent of communication, as you all know. And if you’re looking for a way to improve your relationship, communication is where it’s at. What haven’t you expressed to your boo? Anything you’ve been meaning to say, but haven’t gotten around to discussing? Feelings that you don’t think are important enough to share? Let ‘em rip, baby! Spill everything to your bae and you’ll feel closer, more connected and way more solid.

Ask big questions

Communication is a two-way street. But, sometimes you need to give a green light to make your partner feel comfortable enough to communicate…especially if your partner is a dude. A good way to encourage some extra communication is to ask your boo big questions. Dig into what would make them happier and what they love about your relationship. That way, you can focus on what’s working for your partner and build new elements of your relationship, too. But, you won’t know where to focus your energy if you don’t get any direction. So, ask for it!

Spice it up

Any relationship gets a little stale after a while. Even the best, sexiest relationships. Like, I bet Eva and Ryan have hit snoozey lulls in their relationship. So, know that you’re in good company. And while being comfortable with your partner is obviously valuable, you don’t want your togetherness to get totally boring. So, resolve to spice it up every once in a while. Maybe it’s sex toys or lingerie or a trip or even just a big, fancy meal. Make some things feel special and your entire relationship with feel more special and alive.

Take care of yourself

Remember that your relationship is only as healthy as the two people in it are. So, be sure that you’re taking care of yourself. That might mean spending time solo or really making an effort to hang out and connect with your friends. You could also set a regular weekly or monthly pamper appointment. If you have the funds, that appointment could be for a professional massage. If not, just give yourself an at home manicure!

Date again

No, don’t date other people again. But, think back to your first few months with your boo. You guys went on real dates and found fun activities to do together, right? That probably faded once you got more serious. I say make 2016 the year of the first date! Plan dates for yourself that feel like adventurous first dates. You two will have a ball!

Happy 2016, my love. I can’t wait to see what the new year brings for all of us. Personally, I’m feeling really good about what’s to come.
