How to stay motivated when it comes to dating

No one lists “dating” as a hobby. Dinners with boring strangers and uncomfortable forced hugs are not anyone’s idea of a good time. I’m not the first one to say it, but dating sucks when it’s not going well. And dates don’t go well most of the time. It’s understandable that a lot of single gals have trouble staying motivated when it comes to dating.  It’s not easy to constantly put yourself out there time and time again to have the date end in a prayer, and then he loses your number. But stay motivated if you want to find Prince Charming.

So much possibility

If you’re having trouble getting yourself pumped to put on your heels and that little black dress again, focus on the possibility of the date instead of the actual date itself. Sure, the actual date is probably going to be two watery cosmos and a lot of talk about his recently-purchased season tickets to a sport you don’t care about. That’s hard to get excited for, I know that. But what if the date goes well? There’s a possibility this could be your first step into a lifetime of love. And I’d be willing to slip on stilettos and my Spanx for that.

It only takes one

Remember that you’re not after the gold medal in dating. All you’re after is that one great date. So don’t let a few bad dates get you down or convince you you’re going to be single forever. Dating in general isn’t supposed to go well. Just one date is. Keep slogging through the cruddy ones (there will be a lot of them), and you’ll find your diamond in the dating rough.

Fleeting adventure

Once you’re in your happy, loving relationship (and you will be soon, I’m sure of it), you’re going to look back on your dating disasters and think of them as adventures. Really, these tear-inducing trials and tribulations will be hilarious stories you’ll tell your other married friends and even your daughter one day. So go ahead and make them good. You’re going to want some crazy tales to tell when you’re old and boring and super happy and incredibly loved. Do it for future you.

You deserve love

Woman, take a look in the mirror and you’ll see someone who is incredibly deserving of a loyal, loving partner. You deserve that perfect guy. So go out and date a lot, even when it’s sometimes crappy, because all of those bad dates will be worth it once you find that guy who makes you more whole. The truth is that the best things in life aren’t free. All good things take work. If you put in the effort, you’ll get the life and the love that you deserve.

And let’s support each other, girls! Tell me your dumpy dating stories to reassure the next girl to read this that she’s not alone.
