The Fountain of Beauty

You no longer have to pick between your fanny or your face

Woman looks at her face in the mirrorFamous French actress, Catherine Deneuve, has been quoted as saying “After a certain age, you have to choose between your fanny or your face.” What she is saying is something that we in the aesthetic field witness on a daily basis. As we age, the fat compartments in our face naturally begin to atrophy. Maintaining a low BMI can look great for our bodies, but it exacerbates the aging of our faces. With significant weight loss, the face is usually the first place that it shows.

Of course, I would never recommend putting on 10 pounds just to make our faces look a little fuller or younger. Truth be told, the face is also one of the last places that most of us put that weight back on. I often speak with my patients about how perfect it would be if we could just pick and choose where we lose and where we gain our fat. But, until we are able to figure a way to earn that super-power, there are many options at our disposal that can help us to maintain that healthy balance between face and body.

Many women who do not want to give up their exercise regimen or clean eating are turning to fillers to replenish some of that more youthful volume. Fillers like Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, Sculptra or even fat from your own body can be placed in the cheeks, temples or other areas that are sinking and give a naturally rejuvenated look. It can look like you put on 5 pounds, but in all the right places.

I also have many women and men that come in because they have a difficult area of fat to lose. They are happy with their face and other areas of their body and don’t want extreme dieting or exercise to affect these. Other than Liposuction, Cool Sculpting is a perfect non-invasive option for these patients. This is a treatment that uses cold to destroy fat cells in a targeted area, with no downtime.

So, with these and many other treatments available to us today, no one should feel the need to choose between a fit body or a pretty face. We can literally have our cake and eat it too.
