Swoon over glitter: Sexy dresses for holiday cocktail hour

Holiday dress from Club Monaco
Fa la la la. Fa la la la. I am so, so, so into the holiday spirit this year. It's my first Christmas! The singing, the cheer, the eggnog, the glitter! I love it all. But if you know me (and I hope you do by now, my PattiKnows loves), you know that I love the glitter most of all. There’s something about sparkle that just says holiday season to me, and I love that there are so many parties this time of year where you can wear a little glitter. If you have holiday parties coming up, I picked out some of my favorite holiday glammy dresses to make you sparkle and shine at your event. Read more

Spending the holiday apart: How to deal with distance this time of year

The holidays are the worst time of year to start a relationship. I’m not saying close up your love shop and stop looking for love from October through January, but just know it’s going to be tough if you find a new boo during those months. Thanksgiving and Christmas can mean up to two full weeks apart in a six-week period. I’m no mathematician, but take that, add on the holiday parties that you’re not going to together because you were each invited to separate parties on the same night, and you have way too much time apart for a fledgling relationship. Of course, there are ways to make it work, but you've got to work to make it happen. Read more

And if you’re under six months with your man, holiday gifting can feel really premature. But with Christmas music on the radio, the insane amount of gift commercials and the general seasonal merriment, it’s not like you can avoid the holidays just because your relationship isn’t ready yet. So I’ve noodled up some general rules to make holiday gifting as easy for new couples as possible. Here they are. Read more

How to avoid a diet meltdown over the holidays

Every year I remind myself to eat healthy during the holiday season. I made it through Halloween with collateral damage, but it wasn't a complete disaster.  Of course, we all have our own definition of collateral damage, mine being “approximately six peanut butter cups.”  In any case, I made it into late November relatively unscathed, and then, suddenly, we came upon that four-day weekend synonymous with over-eating, black Friday and football (in no particular order). Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pumpkin pie in Dallas, so I decided to eat 3/4 of an entire pie afterward but not until I had a giant piece of stromboli first.  It’s a good thing I chased it all down with diet Coke, no less than 20 of them.  This wasn’t just a bad diet weekend — this was the equivalent of a diet nuclear meltdown! 10 Small ways to spread some extra holiday joy

Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. Just a bit of your time or a few dollars from your pocket can completely make someone’s day, week or month! Remember: The karma police are always on patrol. Counting to 10, here are some cute ways to make someone smile. 1. Slip a Starbucks gift card into your mailbox for your mail carrier. If you don’t know his or her name, simply draw a smiley face and write, “Happy Holidays!” Read more
