How long should your engagement period be?

Couple gets engaged
Gone are the days when couples are expected to be engaged for a year or more. For the sake of you and your fiance's peace of mind, your engagement period should only be as long as necessary to successfully design and plan your wedding engagements. That being said, longer engagements do obviously have their perks.  Firstly, your guests have time to save up for your wedding, book their travel and accommodations, and get time off of work.  Additionally, if you are not working with a wedding planner, this period will allow you and your fiancé enough time to find and book your vendors (who are likely still available), plan and enjoy all celebratory parties (i.e. engagement party, any showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties), and really enjoy and relish in the feeling of being engaged. a man smiles in bed
People ask me all the time for ways to tell if someone’s good in bed. In fact, I just got this email from a listener in Houston:   Dear Emily, Do you have any tips for figuring out if someone’s good in bed before you sleep with them? The reason I’m asking is because there’s this guy at work who I always thought was really hot, but he had a girlfriend. Well, the other day he came over to my desk to specifically ask if I was going to happy hour on Friday. Then I found out he and his girlfriend had broken up! Now I can’t stop thinking about sleeping with him and I’m dying of curiosity. Are there any clues that might help me even though I only see him in an office? Read more
