Why You Should Take It Slow

Couple holding hands.

It’s the beginning of the year.

What is the best advice you can possibly have?

Well, if you look at 2014, it went really fast, didn’t it?

It was like the super speed year.

Before you looked around, it was May. Before you knew it, it was July, before you knew it, it was December…Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas. Now look at us, we’re in January.

If we all had one New Years’ Resolution, especially for those of us who are getting older (like everyone)…

Oh, to take it ever so slow.

And how does that pertain to dating this year, you ask. Well today, I went to the gym. I have a number of muses in my life. I’ve got a friend named John.

Whenever I see him he always gives me such good blog material. He always leaves me with at least one or two doozies every time we meet.

Today we’re talking and he met somebody recently. I was really happy for him. I love it when my friends meet somebody cool. It makes me feel good.

He said, “I’m just going to take it slow”, and I thought to myself, “That’s it.”

That’s the resolution for all you single people this year.

You need to all take it slow.

Don’t rush love. Don’t rush telling somebody you love them, because you love the idea of them. The idea is to take it slow, enjoy every moment.

Don’t rush the relationship. Don’t rush sex. Don’t rush anything. Look at the new person you meet this year and take it slow.

Don’t rush the relationship. Don’t rush sex. Don’t rush anything. Look at the new person you meet this year and take it slow.

Allow the relationship to develop. Yeah I know, you’re excited when you meet somebody new. And let me tell you something, it’s exciting. There’s nothing like that new person feeling. It’s almost the same as a new car smell.

Every single time you climb aboard, sit next to them, hang out with them, it’s a new exciting feeling. But we want to make that feeling last, and we want to make sure that feeling is legitimate. The only way to do that is not to rush love.

Take it slow. If you feel like you’re falling in love with somebody, hold those thoughts back. Really look at the person that you’re with. Ask yourself, “Is this really somebody I’m falling in love with, or is this the idea of falling in love.

Does this person satisfy your unique love blueprint?

Does this person satisfy your needs, wants, and desires?

Is this somebody you truly can get old with?

Is this somebody that you can have a real relationship with?

Because once the ‘new person smell’ disappears, what’s left is the real person. And that’s what I want you to be able to see.

So this year, the best advice I can give you is to take it slow. There’s your resolution, there’s your intent for the year. Date, have fun, but remember, take it slow.
