There’s no such thing as a stupid question – especially when you discover that a vaunted “expert” isn’t as in command of the facts as they led you to believe.
Think twice about who you open up to. Some friends can deal with your uncertainty; others can’t. Choose people whom you know will be in your corner.
Cool it with the witty repartee. People are touchy today and are unlikely to see the humor in anything.
If you need help then you will have to ask for it. Like you, your friends are too wise to assume and too respectful to intrude.
As far as you’re concerned you fulfilled your obligations. Unfortunately that’s not how the other party sees it. Technically speaking you’re still on the hook.
