Love advice from Zoe Saldana that I love

I’ve been told that my obsession with celebrity culture is a big fat waste of time by some not so supportive people in my life. And I’m not going to say that celebrity gossip is the best thing to ever happen to humanity, but I really don’t think it’s a waste at all. I love what I love and the glitz and glam of famous people is something I can’t help but love. It’s not just about fame and fortune gawking, though. I’ve learned some important lessons from celebrities about life, money and especially about love. Recently, I was reading coverage of newly pregnant Zoe Saldana’s interview in Marie Claire and absolutely loved the advice she had about dealing with break ups. She was pretty classy and didn’t mention any names, but if you follow her love life (which I obviously do), you can make an educated guess that some of this was based on her experiences with exes Bradley Cooper and Keith Britton. Here’s what I learned.

It’s ok not to be friends with your ex

To paraphrase Zoe, it’s ok to never want to associate with someone who treated you like crap. Being friends with someone who hurt your feelings doesn’t make you cool or chill, which is something I think a lot of women want to be considered post-break up. It kind of makes you a push over. It’s fine to not like someone for being a jerk face to you. And it’s also fine for him to know that you don’t like him because of his behavior. Guys become your exes because it’s over. Let the relationship be totally over, not just turned down from a romantic relationship to a friendly relationship.

Never settle

The fact that Zoe friggin’ Saldana—with her looks, success, and confidence—has come close to settling for less than her perfect match is just an indication that the temptation to settle can happen to any woman. But don’t do it. The perfect guy for you is out there and you will find him. Just keep looking. There will be a guy out there who loves you for you and for the woman you’re growing into as well.

When you know, you know

Zoe says she didn’t follow any dating rules when she met her husband Marco Perego. She just knew he was her forever guy and it was “game on” from minute one. This totally makes sense to me. While I am one for following certain dating rules, I do know that it’s true that when it feels right, it’s because it’s right. There are very specific feelings you get when you meet your forever person that can be faked or mistaken. Go with your gut when you feel those feelings!
