If you haven’t seen the Instagram Account “texts from your ex“, we highly suggest you page through it as soon as humanly possible. The account has over 1 million followers for a reason, it seems as though our generation cannot physically stop texting our exes and the insanity of it all perfectly captured through screenshots is beyond entertaining.

I wonder what the other 42 texts are…

Why do we so frequently succomb to the temptation of texting an ex? Its so easy to be impulsive and hit send, without really thinking of the consequences. It makes us wish we had passed the dating phase of life without the ability to send a text message. Our post-breakup lack of self control mixed with the fact that an ex is just a few clicks of your iPhone away do not make a good combination. No matter what drives it, whether its anger, missing them, or regret; when you decide you want to text your ex, you make up any excuse to do it, even if it is the dumbest reason in the world.

Ex texts are entertaining enough to create an Instagram phenomenon because we all go a little crazy in a breakup. As evident on this Instagram account, most of these conversations (definitely the funnier ones) involve some serious hate. Although these make us laugh, it wows us that these conversations filled with such hatred all stem from what was at one point a happy and loving relationship. It’s amazing how so many people who once shared a true affinity for one another, have nothing they want to do more than hurt the other person, all the while hiding behind their phones.

Understandably so, any conversation with an ex is emotionally charged with both parties walking on pins and needles while trying to decipher every single detail of the conversation. The thing that makes these conversations so intriguing is that since it is intense already, anything is fair game. From the meanest things in the world to literal begging and love professions. Basically, these conversations are equivalent of ones occurring on kindergarten playgrounds daily. Who would not want to read these?

We have literally all been there and done this, and we’re pretty sure that everyone could submit more than a few screenshots to “texts from your ex”. Its just a harsh reality of our current dating environment, but the older we all get we think it might be time to retire this habit. Unless you have great reason to reach out, leave your past in the past and just get busy moving on!
