Summer date ideas you can do in any city

It’s summertime! This is probably my favorite season for planning dates. Warm weather makes all the difference when it comes to dating — especially budget-friendly dating. And who isn’t looking for some wallet relief? So here are five summer date ideas you can do in any city as long as the sun is shining and the shorts are short!

Biking

Remember when that neighbor boy you had a crush on would come over, knock on your front door and ask if you wanted to go for a bike ride? For a lot of people, biking was their first date. And some things don’t need improving. Hop on your bikes or borrow a bike from one of the popular bike-share programs popping up in many cities, and cruise around town. I mean, can it get any better than a date that counts as your workout for the day, but where you can still wear a cute outfit?

Stoop drinking

This isn’t my classiest idea, but does fun ever happen when you’re worried about being classy? Grab some booze, put it in a brown paper bag and go find a nice stoop to sit on and watch the world go by. I’m not saying that you should drink a whole bottle of liquor. My two drink rule still applies here. But people-watching when you’re a little tipsy is such an easy way to get conversation going. And I bet you’ll get a lot deeper with the convo than you would at some stuffy restaurant.

Dessert tour

Every city has cupcake shops sprouting up like weeds. Why not take advantage of the weather and walk around from shop to shop, sampling a few? You can compare them to figure out which bakery really has the best cupcake.

Board game outside

I’m really spilling it in this post. Ready for this? I love board games. Like really, really love them. The way to my heart is to let me win at Scrabble. So a perfect date for me is spreading out a blanket and setting up a board game two people can play. Of course, I’d recommend Scrabble. But even a deck of cards will work.

Outdoor eating

Eating outside is something that I’ve started to take for granted living in L.A. But whenever I’m in New York or anywhere else, I realize just how special outdoor eating is. It can make even a diner grilled cheese feel special. So wherever your honey and you are dining, ask to be seated outside. It’ll feel way more special.
