Patti’s birthday bash

It’s hard to believe I ever had a nine-to-five job where we celebrated coworkers’ birthdays at an awkward table in our office kitchen or copy room. Last thursday, my boss lady celebrated her birthday and launch of at Koi in Hollywood.

With help from our ladies at SheKnows, we threw a star-studded event complete with a performance by A Fine Frenzy and a three-foot masterpiece from Charm City Cakes West. Who did I spend my day prepping with? Ashlynn Yennie. I get that it looks like I have one friend in ALL of Los Angeles, but I SWEAR I’m branching out.

I tamed my lion’s mane at DryBar in West Hollywood. They did a stellar job as usual, and I love that they’re always playing a classic chick flick you’ve been meaning to watch again. And at $35 a visit, I never feel the least bit guilty for treating myself.

Once my ‘fro had been transformed, I headed next door and met Ashlynn at Blushington to get our makeup done. The whole staff at Blushington is super friendly and we both left wanting to hang out with them. Michelle, the manager, was my makeup artist for the day. She used eye shadows that complemented the dress I was wearing that night (Alice and Olivia — courtesy of my boss lady herself) and did a great job making sure my face still looked light and fresh. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re wearing ten pounds of makeup. Ashlynn’s makeup artist, Jessica, used bold purples on her eyes and false lashes. She looked even more gorgeous than usual and we both felt ready to walk in like we owned the place.

And we did just that. Ashlynn walked the pink carpet solo like the movie star she IS. I walked the carpet with Ryan Phinny (Indy Car). We drank TY KU Sake. Nom. Ate red velvet cake. Nom. And sang along with A Fine Frenzy up close and personal. It was so great to see everyone’s hard work come together and celebrate the launch of Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and everyone following the live feed online.

And happy birthday, Patti!
