Movies for the couch potato couple

Big, extravagant date nights are great. And you know me — I’m a girl who loves bling, flash and all kinds of fabulous scenes. But even I know that some of the most special date nights happen at home, on a couch, sharing a bowl of popcorn. A movie night is often the best thing you can do with your boo. And with the economy the way it is, it’s also the best thing you can do with your wallet too. So here are some of my favorite date-night movies. Hope this inspires you to cuddle up close with your man this weekend.

Wayne’s World

Wayne’s World! Wayne’s World! Party time! Excellent! I loved this Saturday Night Live sketch, and when it got turned into a movie, I felt like my comedy dreams were coming true. It’s a hilarious movie and totally stands the test of time. (Trust me. I just watched it last week. And the week before that. And the one before that too. What can I say? I love this movie!) Even with all of the laughs, the love story is pretty adorable. I love all of Wayne’s misguided attempts to win Cassandra back. And Garth and his dream girl? It’s undeniably cute… and weird. But more cute. And the scene in the car when they’re singing to Queen? Don’t even get me started on how much I love it!

Pitch Perfect

Guys, it’s out on DVD. Run, do not walk, to go out and get it. It’s the perfect date movie. It’s funny and makes fun of a cappella. (And who doesn’t love making fun of a cappella? No one, that’s who.) The singing and dancing are fantastic too. It’s a light movie with a sweet love story that will leave your boo and you feeling so super great.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

This movie isn’t the greatest, I admit it. But it is an action movie that any rom-com-loving woman can sit through. There’s just enough plot and romantic tension to get you through. But more than the actual movie is the connection between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. This is the movie where the two of them fell in love, and you can totally see their chemistry on-screen. It’s pretty amazing to watch.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

I know this is a Halloween movie and that time of year has come and gone, but this movie is so fantastic, I’d watch it any time of year. The message of hope and innocence is so sweet and inspiring. It will warm your heart, no matter what month you watch it, and if you have kids around, a date night with this DVD can include the whole family.

Your wedding video

When was the last time you watched your wedding video? Be honest, have you ever watched it? And how much did you pay for that thing? Go ahead, dust it off and spend a night watching it! Relive the best hair day of your life and the most awkward best man speech of all time. It’ll bring back all kinds of memories and make you two feel super close.
