5 Fitness Friendly Date Ideas

couple takes surfing lesson for a date
While I don’t consider jogging on side-by-side treadmills at your local gym the definition of romance, it is possible to get your sweat on while on a date. Taking a fitness class together is a great date idea, as it allows you to get to know each other in a low pressure environment–no awkward silences here! It’s also a good test to see if you can relax and have fun together without worrying about how you look because nobody looks perfect and sexy at all times when they are working out . Not all fitness classes are ideal for couples though, so instead of inviting your crush to an advanced Crossfit class, consider these more date-friendly options instead.

1. SUP Yoga

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is a popular date idea on it’s own, but throwing yoga into the mix takes the sport to a new level. This isn’t your standard yoga practice where talking is frowned upon or where it seems to be a contest of who can take themselves the most serious. When doing SUP Yoga, laughter is encouraged, and SUP or yoga experience isn’t necessary. After paddling around the ocean, lake or bay near you, getting comfortable on the board, you’ll be led through a series of beginner friendly yoga poses-don’t worry, there is an anchor involved so you won’t end up floating out to Catalina while in down-dog, standing up your date in the process.http://yogaqua.com/

2. Cirque School

Instead of just taking your date to see a Cirque du Soleil show, experience the circus life first hand together. Circus and trapeze inspired fitness classes are popping up across the country, and offer you and your date the chance to literally fall…and hopefully, fall in love too. From the Trapeze School in NYC and DC, to the Circus Arts Institute in San Diego and Atlanta, it’s becoming easier and easier to find a circus fitness class near you. If you’re in the LA area, check out Cirque School! With classes like aerial fabric and contortion taught by Cirque du Soleil alums, Cirque School in Hollywood is more about the experience than the workout which makes for a great date, but don’t get it twisted–you’ll be very, very sore the next day! http://cirqueschoolla.com/

3. Surf Lessons

Having been born and raised in Southern California, I can definitely say that not everyone knows how to surf, as some people may like to think. While I have spent a lot of time at the beach, I’ve never been on a surfboard…but there is no time quite like the present! No matter what your skill level, grab your date and hit the waves. There are surf school locations up and down the coast that will provide you and your date a safe place to learn to surf, and laugh at each other when you fall, over and over again. http://aquasurfschool.com/surf-lessons/california.htm

4. Dance Fitness

Dancing is one of the best workouts simply because it’s doesn’t feel like a workout, when in reality you’ve burned 600 calories and your feet are going to hate you tomorrow. It can be awkward to start dancing at a club or restaurant on a date, so if you feel like shakin’ it OR you want to see how your date moves, sign up for one of the many classes  offered at dance studios around the country. In LA, a popular studio is LA DanceFit. From Salsa to Cardio Hip Hop, the classes are great for beginners and having fun is the number one priority. http://www.ladancefit.com/

5. Boxing

Ding Ding! Jump in that ring and start kicking your dates booty! Boxing is a great way to release tension and stress, and you’ll have a lot of fun while you’re at it, not to mention it’s pretty sexy to see your date going to town on that bag! There is nothing wrong with a little sparring, but remember we’re going for flirty not Rocky. http://www.cityofangelsboxing.com/
